US Branches Biennial Conference 2026: Building the mariner of tomorrow

The US Branches of The Nautical Institute are pleased to announce their 2026 Biennial Conference in New York in October.

This two-day conference will unpack the theme of 'Building the mariner of tomorrow' - finding better ways to educate, train, develop, test and prepare those who will be taking on the critical role of operating vessels in the coming decades.

Join leaders from across government and industry to discuss and develop ways forward to ensure the orderly development of best practices across the US and global merchant marine.

Topics will include:

  • Keynote address from senior MARAD personnel
  • Emerging technologies at sea
  • Managing operational change aboard
  • STCW comprehsive review
  • Evolution of education, training and assessment of the future mariner
  • Role of The Nautical Institute's STEER Project
