Speaker Bio:
Captain Antoinette Keller is a pioneering South African maritime leader with over 30 years of experience, currently serving as the Principal Officer for the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) in Cape Town.
A true trailblazer, Antoinette made history in 2001 as South Africa's first female Master Mariner, a feat that earned her recognition from former President Thabo Mbeki. Her career began at sea, progressing from a deck cadet to become Safmarine’s first female Chief Officer in 2000, with operational experience on tankers, mining, multi-purpose, general cargo and container vessels.
Transitioning ashore, she held roles as a Nautical Superintendent at Safmarine, Vessel Specialist with A.P. Moller - Maersk before joining SAMSA in 2011 as ship surveyor. In her current management role, she is accountable for statutory surveys, port state control, maritime training accreditation, and incident investigation. Her exceptional contribution to the sector was recognised in 2020 when she was awarded the SAMSA CEO Excellence Award.
A dedicated mentor and advocate for inclusion, Antoinette holds an Unlimited Master Mariner Certificate of Competency and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business.
