Explore leadership, management, motivation and performance and learn how these skills can significantly improve safety and performance.

This Leadership & Professional Behaviours Workshop, delivered by The Nautical Institute with the support of The Seafarers’ Charity, offers a focused opportunity to explore how leadership behaviour directly influences safety, performance and wellbeing in the maritime sector.

Moving beyond theory, the workshop provides practical insight into the behavioural and interpersonal dynamics that shape day‑to‑day operations at sea and ashore. Through expert‑led sessions and scenario‑based, case‑driven discussions, participants will examine how leadership style, communication and professional conduct impact decision‑making, team performance and organisational culture.

As the maritime industry continues to evolve in response to technological change, increasing operational complexity and workforce diversity, the quality of leadership has never been more critical. This workshop highlights how effective leadership behaviours, inclusive practices and strong communication are essential to managing risk, supporting wellbeing and achieving safe, consistent outcomes.

Delivered face‑to‑face, the workshop creates space for open discussion, peer learning and reflection, enabling participants to learn from real‑world experiences across different sectors of the industry. The interactive format supports deeper engagement and practical skills development that cannot be achieved through remote delivery alone.

Designed for maritime professionals working in challenging and dynamic environments, the workshop equips delegates with practical, immediately applicable tools to improve leadership effectiveness, handle difficult conversations, manage conflict and foster respectful, psychologically safe workplaces.
