As the leading maritime professional organisations, we are reviving the Certificate of Excellence

We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST), marking the relaunch of a significant initiative in marine and maritime education and training.

As the leading maritime professional organisations, we are reviving the Certificate of Excellence – an international accreditation that recognises institutions demonstrating high standards across maritime education. While the full details of the relaunch will follow in due course, this agreement lays the foundations for a robust update of this important initiative that focuses on:

  • Education and Training Standard
  • Education and Training Quality
  • Institutional Quality Assurance

Capt. John Lloyd FNI, CEO of The Nautical Institute, commented:

"We are pleased to be collaborating with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology in recognising those organisations that have committed themselves to delivering excellence in maritime training and education. A high quality, motivated workforce is dependent upon the education sector to help them build successful careers and to help ensure a sustainable and effective future for our community."

Somiyeh Djavanroodi, Head of The Nautical Institute Academy, added:

"High-quality maritime education and training are cornerstones of a successful and sustainable industry. Through the Certificate of Excellence, we aim to create a benchmark that ensures maritime training institutions are meeting—and exceeding—global expectations. This initiative underscores the importance of rigorous standards in education, paving the way for improved workforce quality and industry performance.”

We will share more details soon as we continue working together to support excellence in maritime education.
