Call for nominations: 2026 IMO Gender Equality Award

30 May 2025 Institute News

We are pleased to support the IMO’s call for nominations for the 2026 Gender Equality Award, which recognises individuals, regardless of gender, who have made outstanding contributions to gender equality in the maritime industry.

This prestigious award will be presented during the International Day for Women in Maritime in May 2026.

The Nautical Institute’s mission to promote professional excellence, safety, and leadership in the maritime industry is closely aligned with the IMO’s commitment to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women.

We place strong emphasis on supporting inclusive professional development and fostering a culture of continuous learning as key drivers of progress. We believe that mentoring, soft skills and thought leadership are vital to empowering all maritime professionals, particularly those from underrepresented groups, to thrive. By advocating for just opportunities, celebrating what good looks like and encouraging role models across all levels of the industry, we fully support the spirit of the IMO Gender Equality Award and the broader goals of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda (SDG 5).

If you know of a Nautical Institute member who has driven positive change, through policy, leadership, education, or advocacy, we want to hear from you.

To suggest a nominee, please contact us at [email protected] by the 23rd of June to allow time for us review all potential candidates.

Let’s celebrate those who support a more inclusive maritime industry.
