5th Global Dynamic Positioning & Offshore Energy Conference

25 Sep 2025 Institute News

On the 24th and 25th of September we brought together training providers, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the globe for our annual Global DP & Offshore Energy Conference, a forum dedicated to advancing safety, competence and innovation in offshore operations.

Our CEO, Captain John Lloyd FNI captured the essence of the event:

“Istanbul provided not only a great location but also the important annual opportunity for training providers in Dynamic Positioning to come together, share best practice and discuss how the international scheme can continue to lead the way in providing incident-free operations in the offshore energy sector. With continuing professional development central to retaining valid DPO certification, The Nautical Institute’s qualifications continue to set the standard expected by industry.”

Captain Mike Meade PD FNI CMMar FICS MIMarEST of M3 Marine Group Pte Ltd reinforced this message: “Having a globally consistent qualification is essential when recruiting on the international market; seeing industry and training providers come together in this way is a sign of a mature and effective qualification framework that helps keep the industry safer.”

The two-day conference, offered an open platform for engaging and interactive discussions on topics important to the industry, including:

  • Maximising training value & competency in DP operations
  • Progress on the DPVM Scheme and CPD for DPOs & DPVM
  • Digitalisation, online TestReach assessments and fair platforms
  • The AI paradox in DP training and advanced remote DP operations

An insightful panel led by Sumon Muddusetti, Chairman of the MTS DP Committee, explored ASOG as a decision-making tool, the impact of mission-focused training and response-to-failure training.
These conversations reinforcing our shared commitment to safer, smarter offshore operations.

The conference has been a great success, fostering collaboration among our partners, our global network of accredited training providers and industry stakeholders.

It reaffirmed our shared commitment to advancing DP safety, continuous professional development and global training standards that meet the industry’s agile needs.

Special thanks to our headline sponsor, Lerus Training, all our partners, Nautical Institute training centres, OTC, IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association), MTS, and industry stakeholders for making this event possible.

Together, we continue to shape the future of dynamic positioning training, ensuring a globally consistent, effective qualification framework that keeps our industry safe.
