 It would appear that taking visual bearings is now becoming redundant with so many Bridge Watchkeepers relying solely on GPS. A common sight on ships which I pilot in coastal waters is the wing repeater covered up. The crews often get quite upset when I ask for the cover to be removed and for an azimuth circle to be provided.
