06/020 - Inspector causes fatigue

10 Dec 2006 Resource

When the ship was in US port a vetting inspector arrived. When he boarded due to various changes in berthing I had been up over 24 hours with I think 2 x 3Hr rest periods. Class surveyor was on board to check on some aspects for the USCG, Stores & provisions arrived, an - unannounced Drug and Alcohol test was carried out. Plus the usual plethora of operational and administrative aspects of a USA port visit.

The vetting inspector kept me up all day and waiting, in the end to go over the crew documentation, (which he never looked at anyway) and all I wanted to do was go to sleep for a few hours before sailing.

ETD was 23:00 with a possible STS outside.

I could not have a hot meal as none of the microwaves were working. After waiting for him 11 hours after he boarded, he handed me a list of 24 deficiencies. The first one I saw was a complete lie, my blood pressure went through the roof & I blew my top.
