Transforming Maritime Together: Procurement, Innovation & the Human Experience
The Nautical Institute is proud to present a dedicated Crew Welfare Day as part of the IMPA Singapore 2026 conference programme, bringing together maritime leaders, procurement professionals, technology innovators, and welfare advocates to explore the evolving relationship between procurement, digital transformation, and the human experience at sea.
As maritime operations become increasingly data-driven, connected, and automated, procurement decisions have a growing influence on the daily lives, safety, and wellbeing of seafarers. Far beyond controlling costs, procurement has the potential to shape crew experiences, determine access to support and essential services, and influence how emerging technologies are implemented across the industry.
This year's programme explores how procurement can move from being viewed as a cost centre to becoming a strategic enabler of positive human outcomes. Sessions will examine the role of artificial intelligence and data in decision-making, the impact of digital supply chains on the onboard experience, and the opportunities and challenges posed by increasing automation.
Through thought-provoking discussions and practical insights, delegates will consider a critical question: as ships become smarter and more connected, how can the maritime industry ensure that the needs of people remain at the heart of decision-making?
From human-centred procurement strategies to the welfare implications of autonomous systems, Crew Welfare Day 2026 will challenge attendees to rethink the connection between technology, supply chains, and the wellbeing of those who keep global trade moving.
Sessions include:
- Procurement as a driver of crew welfare - From Cost Centres to Human Outcomes: Redefining Maritime Procurement
- AI & data in procurement – Smart Procurement, Smarter Welfare? AI, Data, and the Human Reality at Sea
- The digital supply chain & crew experience - Connected Ships, Connected Decisions: Digital Supply Chains that Serve People
- The future – Autonomous systems & human needs - High-Tech Ships, High-Risk Blind Spots: Welfare in the Age of Automation
