200448 Overfill Alarm Failure

 One of our tankers was loading a clean product with a density of 0.665. Although her cargo tanks were filled more than 95%, the automatic magnetic high overfill alarms were not activated. All pre-arrival tests had been carried out successfully. After a thorough investigation in conjunction with the makers we found out that the material (stainless steel) of the floating device does not respond - due to buoyancy - in cargoes with densities lower than 0.75.

The makers undertook the responsibility and they will replace all the floating devices.
