Crew Endorsement
The Maritime Search and Rescue Endorsement Scheme (MSARES) is designed to be a self-driven professional development programme, ensuring that professionals engaged in maritime search and rescue meet a recognised standard of proficiency. The scheme is specifically designed for candidates involved in maritime search and rescue operations on board search and rescue vessels, in any capacity. Responsibility for completing practical tasks and acquiring the underpinning knowledge lies with the candidate enrolled in the scheme.
The MSARES is to be used in conjunction with the appropriate maritime certification currently required for the size and type of vessel operated (Powerboat, Yachtmaster, or Deck CoC). The MSARES does not alter the limits or privileges of these certificates; rather, it recognises the specialised skills and proficiency the holder has gained in the field of search and rescue operations, particularly in the complex and often high-risk situations that search and rescue vessels frequently encounter.
