Maritime Autonomy and Navigation Webinar
The RIN and National Physical Laboratory (NPL) are organising a joint webinar on the Quality Assurance of Navigation for Maritime Autonomous systems, which will include findings from their Maritime Autonomy Assurance Testbed (MAAT) programme.
There is a growing demand for uncrewed and autonomous maritime vessels, both for defence and civilian purposes around the world, presenting new challenges of regulation, certification and assurance.
The Maritime Autonomy Assurance Testbed (MAAT) programme led by NPL and Lloyd’s Register has been established to create a reliable, scalable and accessible assurance framework for Maritime Autonomous System (MAS). The growth potential for this emerging technology is highlighted in the recently published economic study commissioned by NPL and the National Shipbuilding Office (NSO), who are the sponsor for MAAT for the UK, accessible here (pdf).
This 90 minute workshop, hosted online, will present an opportunity for subject matter experts to consider how we deliver confidence in the ability of uncrewed and autonomous systems to navigate safely, reliably and effectively – this goes to the heart of the challenge.
Agenda will include:
- Introduction to the Maritime Autonomy Assurance Testbed (MAAT) programme led by NPL and Lloyd’s Register
- Several Questions or statements will be put to the participants to discuss in the round, accompanied by online feedback opportunities.
