AGM OF NIB & NICB

The Annual General Meeting of Nautical Institute Bangladesh & Nautical Institute Chattogram was held on Saturday, 09 May 2026 at 07:00 PM at Saint Martin Hotel, Chattogram. The AGM was attended by distinguished maritime professionals, master mariners, and members of the nautical community from different sectors of the industry.

The AGM commenced with welcome address by Chairman Capt. M. A Malek, followed by two separate sessions for NICB and NIB respectively. The Honorary Secretary Capt. Moin Uddin presented activity reports for the year 2025/26 together with accounts.

Members discussed on professional development, safety awareness, training, and strengthening cooperation among professionals in Bangladesh. Members also actively participated in an open discussion session on contemporary maritime topics and issues related to the shipping industry. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Capt. M. A. Fasihur Rahman.

NIB & NICB WELCOMED BMAAA TEAM

The Bangladesh Marine Academy Alumni Association (BMAAA), the official platform of ex-cadets of Bangladesh Marine Academy, recently elected its new committee through a vibrant and well-participated election held on 25 April 2026.

On 05 May 2026, a delegation of NIB/NICB led by Captain M.A. Malek, Chairman, conveyed warm greetings to new BMAAA team headed by President Engr Md Sakhawat Hossain. Captain Moin and Captain Shafiqul Islam were also with the Chairman.

The event was further enriched by the presence of Engr Md Golam Sarwar (19E), Vice President; Engr Mahbubur Rahman (25E), General Secretary; and Faisal Al Asaduzzaman (28E), Treasurer. Their collective participation made the interaction cordial, engaging, and truly meaningful.

NICB Greeted New Committee Of Shipping Agent Association

The Bangladesh Shipping Agents’ Association (BSAA), a key maritime stakeholder in Bangladesh, welcomed its newly elected committee, which assumed office on 20 April 2026.

On 21 April 2026, a delegation from The Nautical Institute Bangladesh (NIB) and The Nautical Institute Chattogram Branch (NICB) visited BSAA to congratulate the new committee led by Captain Salah Uddin Chowdhury. The delegation was headed by Captain M.A. Malek, with Captain Moin Uddin and other EC members.

They highlighted the important role of professional bodies in maritime development and reaffirmed their support for port operations and sector growth. Captain Moin Uddin stressed the need for a smart and safe port environment. The BSAA President expressed sincere appreciation for the visit, with other members also present.

Congratulate to New Commandant of IMA Gazipur

08 April 2026 A delegation from The Nautical Institute, represented by Captain Ataur Rahman Siddique & Captain Parthasarathy Das , paid a courtesy visit to the International Maritime Academy (IMA), Gazipur, to congratulate newly appointed Commandant Captain Subrata Kumar Saha.

During visit, discussed about collaboration including future growth and engagement of Nautical Institute in Bangladesh, and encouraging group membership among academy faculties and cadets to enhance professional development.

The visit concluded with a shared commitment to fostering stronger cooperation for advancement of maritime education and professional excellence.

NISEA and NIB Strengthen Ties Through Strategic Sharing Session

An interactive knowledge-sharing session was held between the South-East Australia Branch (NISEA) and the NI Bangladesh Branch (NIB) on 7 April 2026, during Captain Moin’s visit to Melbourne.

Abdul Hadi, Secretary of NISEA, and Moin Uddin, Secretary of NIB, exchanged insights on branch activities and strategic priorities for maritime development. Moin Uddin highlighted NIB’s recent initiatives, including seminars, membership engagement, and participation in key maritime events. Abdul Hadi outlined NISEA’s efforts in maritime education, career expos, and support for higher studies.

Both Secretaries reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration and agreed to explore joint virtual seminars and continued knowledge sharing to advance the maritime sector.

Strengthening the Future of Bangladeshi Seafarers together with ITF

An interactive discussion and stakeholder meeting with visiting delegates from the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) was successfully held on 30 March 2026 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Chattogram. The event was organized by the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers' Association.

The meeting was led by BMMOA President Capt. Md. Anam Chowdhury and General Secretary Mar. Engr. Md. Shakawat Hossain. The session was honoured by the presence of distinguished ITF representatives, including Asia-Pacific Regional Secretary Mr. Scott Matthew McDine, Deputy Regional Secretary Mr. Abdulgani Yakub Serang, and Global Wellbeing Program Coordinator Dr. Syed Asif Altaf Chowdhury, Captain M. A. Malek, Chairman Nautical Institute, along with representatives from Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chittagong Port Authority, Mercantile Marine Department, IMarEst, manning and shipping agents, National Maritime Institute and local ship-owners.

Networking beyond Horizon

In a social visit to Melbourne, Captain Moin- the Secretary of Nautical Institute; Bangladesh was invited by Captain Francis Castellino, Branch Master of Company of Master Mariners of Australia (CoMMA)  for a professional seminar organized on 25th March 2026 at  Mail Exchange hotel, Melbourne.

Captain Moin expressed the privilege in attending such a distinguished professional gathering. The event provided an excellent platform to engage with maritime professionals in Melbourne, fostering meaningful interactions and strengthening connections within the Master Mariner community.

The session highlighted the value of professional networking and underscored the benefits of active participation in The Nautical Institute, encouraging members to engage more closely with the global maritime community.

Heartiest Congratulations to Capt. Ghulam Hussain

We are proud of Captain Ghulam Hussain (11N), CMMar, LL.M, MBA, FNI, FCILT, FICS, MNI,   who has been awarded the prestigious Chartered Master Mariner (CMMar) title by the Honorable Company of Master Mariners, United Kingdom, on 19 February 2026 at the historic Liverpool Town Hall.

He currently resides in the United Kingdom and serves in the Committee of the NI London Branch and the NI Council and Technical Committee. He is also the Deputy Director, Maritime Affairs, of the Bahamas Maritime Authority. 

On behalf of the Nautical Institute Bangladesh (NIB) Branch, we extend our heartfelt congratulations on this remarkable achievement and wish him continued success in his professional journey.

NICB Greeted New Commandant of Marine Academy, Chittagong

A delegation from The Nautical Institute, Chittagong Branch (NICB) paid a courtesy visit to Captain Kaji A.B.M. Shameem to congratulate him on his appointment as the new Commandant of the Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chattogram.

The meeting provided an excellent platform for exchanging views on strengthening maritime professional development in Bangladesh. The delegation shared insights into the global activities of The Nautical Institute and reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting the development of competent, future-ready maritime professionals.

Group membership opportunities for professional instructors of the Academy  and Student Membership (AMINS) for cadets were offered. Captain Moin (AFNI, MIIMS, CMILT) and Captain Mamun (AFNI) behalf of NIB Branch greeted new Commandent Captain Kaji A.B.M. Shameem.

Membership Campaign January 2026- 11 new members enrolled

During December 2025 and January 2026, a total of 11 new professionals enrolled as new members, and a few archived members are also renewed their memberships. Our back-to-back seminars and related activities created strong resonance within the marine fraternity, motivating many professionals to become members of The Nautical Institute. This positive outcome was also highlighted during our last EC meeting held on 31 January 2026. Observing our branch activities and participation, around 8-10 professionals are also in the queue to become our member.

Technical Seminar on “LNG & FSRU Operations in Bangladesh – Linking Global Trade, Shaping Future Professionals”

The Nautical Institute Chittagong Branch successfully organized a technical seminar titled “LNG & FSRU Operations in Bangladesh”, on 11 December 2025 at Cadet College Club, Agrabad, Chattogram.

The keynote presentation was delivered by Captain Jashim Uddin, AFNI, MBA, MPPL, Terminal Manager / Project Director of Summit LNG Terminal Co. (Pvt.) Ltd.

The seminar brought together maritime professionals to exchange knowledge on LNG and FSRU operations in Bangladesh, with emerging opportunities for marine professionals.

The seminar was graced by a wide range of maritime professionals from Classification Societies, Ship Owner, BMMOA, IMarEST, Port Authority, Marine Department, Marine Academy, Surveyors, members of The Nautical Institute and other maritime organizations.

The session was moderated by Captain Moin, AFNI, MIIMS, CMILT, General Secretary of Nautical Institute Chittagong Branch.

NICB & IMarEST visited to Marine Academy Chattogram

NICB was honored to welcome the leadership of the Nautical Institute Bangladesh (NIB) and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) to Marine Academy Chattogram!

NIB Chairman Capt. M. A. Malek and IMarEST Chairman Dr. Sajid Hussain CEng CMarEng FIMarEST, along with Engr. A.S.M. Arifuzzaman CEng CMarEng FIMarEST, visited the Academy to meet and greet outgoing cadets. A special thanks to Engr. Md. Manjurul Kabir, Commandant of Marine Academy Chattogram, for arranging this valuable session during a very busy academic period.

Nautical Institute Chittagong Branch Visits Mercantile Shipping Lines Limited

On 25 Nov 2025, the Nautical Institute Chittagong (NICB) visited Mercantile Shipping Lines at their office World Trade Centre, Chattogram, who currently operates 23 bulk carriers and 02 Oil / Chemical tanker with highly skilled team and more than 100 afloat Master Mariners.

NICB highlighted value of Nautical Institute membership for professional credibility and networking. The session was highly productive with Capt. Kazi M. Zakaria and Capt. S. K. Haider enrolling as new member.

A technical seminar by IMarEST on 13th Oct 2025

A technical seminar was arranged by IMarEST on 13th Oct'25 at boat club on the subject of Ship demolition (under Hong Kong Convetion). The paper was presented by MarEngr Mahbubur Rahman. The key note presentation was focused on "Ship Demolition Procedure Under the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) and Its Challenges"—a subject of critical importance in today’s maritime industry. 

The cheif guest was Mr. Christopher Goldsworthy, CEO, IMerEST (UK) . Besides, the seminar was attended by IMarEST members, Marine Professionals, members from Nautical Institute and Cadets from Bangladesh Marine Academy was attended.

ImarEST Chairman Dr Sajid Hossain, General Secretary Engr Obaid Ibe Basir, NI Chairman Capt M.A Malek and General Secretary Capt Moin Uddin attended the reception program. 

Technical Seminal- 06th Oct 2025

On 06 October 2025 — A seminar on “Safeguarding Marine Ecosystems” was organized by The Nautical Institute Chittagong. The event was moderated by Captain Moin Uddin AFNI, MIIMS, CMILT, General Secretary which began by the welcome speech of Captain M.A. Malek AFNI, Chairman of the Branch.

The technical paper was delivered by Captain Md. Abu Sufian, DPA and CSO of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation. The seminar was graced by Commodore Mahmudul Malek, (C), BSP, NSWC, AFWC, PSC, BN, Managing Director of BSC, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Commodore Malek commended the initiative and reaffirmed BSC’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations, highlighting the development of environmentally friendly vessels and the adoption of modern technology to enhance operational excellence.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Captain Sabbir Mahmood AFNI, Principal Officer, MMD.

On 30th September 2025, NIB/NICB EC team visited Marine Academy, Chittagong and congratulate new commandant.  At the same time, took the opportunity to greet out going commandant for his contribution to the community.

World Maritime Day 2025

NIB mebers will participate celebraion of World Maritime Day 2025" on 27th September 2025 (Saturday, 07:00 PM) at the Navy Convention Centre, Tigerpass Circle, Ambagan Road, Chattogram, arranged by the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers' Association (BMMOA).

Captain M.A Malek as Chairman for the year 2025-2026.  Capt. M. A. Fashiur Rahman and Captain Sabbir Mahmood, are as Vice President, And Capt. Moinuddin is as General Secretary for 2025-2026.

The Nautical Institute, Chittagong branch conducted election on 05th May 2025 to elect executive committee for year 2025-2026. The election was conducted in a cordial and festive mood, by Captain Mohammad Ali and Capt Mohammad Feroz Mostafa.

Captain M.A Malek has been elected as Chairman for year 2025-2026. POMMD Principle Officer Captain Sabbir Mahmood and Capt. M. A. Fashiur Rahman are elected as Vice President. Capt. Moinuddin as General Secretary and Capt. Abdullah Al Mamun is Asst General Secretory. Capt. Amir Md. Abu Sufian will act as Honorary treasurer.

Present Chairman Captain M Habibur Rahman congratulated newly elected committee. He also thanked to Election Commissioners to conduct the election in a festive manner.
