06/037 - Cape Bulker in Port

27 Dec 2006 Resource

Typical example of loading of Cape Size: Berthing at 0800 hrs

Loading commencement at 0900 hrs Completion loading 0200 hrs Departure 0300 hrs C/O on watch from 0400 - 0800 hrs. Master awake from 0600 (2 hrs prior berthing) till say 2000 hrs then from 0100 hrs (1 hr prior completion) till say 0600 hrs (after sending all the messages, notices AGW).

Suggestion: Berthing / Unberthing to be done during daylight hours only.
Ports to help in implementing this suggestion.

2. Have 2 C/O sailing - one for cargo and ship maintenance and other for navigation only - interchangeable every load port or reduce load/discharge rate to make vessel stay at port more than 48 hrs.

What if this scenario was in disport like Rotterdam with cargo being discharged instead of loading? Master to remain awake for much of the English Channel crossing after departure disport.
