Expand on the knowledge and skills learned in the previous modules with this Intermediate Certificate in Leadership and Management, all based in the Maritime Domain.
The NI Academy's Leadership and Management in the Maritime Domain Intermediate course expands on the subjects learnt in the Basic course. The intermediate certificate course includes subjects on achieving effectiveness, managing mental health, and assessing yourself and your own leadership styles, capabilities and performance.
Aims and objectives
The course aims include:
- Being able to assess an organisations ability to manage efficiently and effectively to achieve targets and objectives.
- Being able to evaluate own ability to manage efficiently and effectively
- Being able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of mental health initiatives in the workplace.
- Being able to carry out the legal requirements to ensure staff’s positive mental health.
- Being able to hold and record conversations with staff about their mental health.
- Understanding leadership styles within an organisation
- The ability to review the effectiveness of own leadership capability and performance in meeting organisational values and goals.
- Being able to adopt an effective leadership style to motivate staff to achieve organisational values and goals
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Assess own organisation’s ability to translate vision, mission and strategic goals into operational objectives with realistic and measurable targets.
- Assess own organisation’s ability to efficiently and effectively delegate responsibilities for the achievement of targets and objectives.
- Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of control methods used to monitor the achievements of targets and objectives in own area of responsibility.
- Implement improvements to organisational efficiency and effectiveness in own area of responsibility.
- Evaluate own ability to manage effectively and efficiently.
- Implement changes in own management style in order to manage more efficiently and effectively.
- Analyse the organisation’s current approach towards mental health
- Assess how other organisations deliver mental health strategies and share examples of best case practices
- Develop a plan to meet the requests for reasonable adjustments of a member of staff
- Describe approaches to improve and manage mental health in the workplace
- Advocate for the mental health of staff as a valuable resource
- Communicate with staff about their mental health and support them to improve it
- Assess own mental health and its potential effect on others
- Review the prevailing leadership styles in the organisation.
- Assess the impact of the prevailing leadership styles on the organisation’s values and performance.
