The two books complement one another by considering the the lessons that can be learned from past casualties and ways of avoiding replicating them. If a casualty should occur, guidance is given on the steps that should be taken to ensure actions are prioritised in the right order. The importance of situational awareness is emphasised in Navigation Accidents, while Casualty Management explains how the Master should deal with the range of individuals involved following an incident, from owners and insurers to salvors and government officials.
