On 1 August 2013 The Nautical Institute achieved registration against the provisions of BS EN ISO 9001:2008 - the International Standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS).

ISO 9001 provides a set of principles that ensure a common sense approach to the management of business activities to consistently achieve customer satisfaction. These principles deal with matters including customer focus, leadership, factual decision making and continuous improvement.

The Nautical Institute anticipates improved organisational efficiency and levels of customer service with full implementation of its QMS.
