Publications
Ship operations has the main focus of the Institute's publications, which cover books, monographs, conference proceedings, and briefings. The emphasis is to provide practical guidance at the post certificate of competence level for use by professional mariners, whether at sea or concerned with ship operations from ashore.

The main categories of publication cover:
  • commercial management,
  • navigation,
  • maritime law,
  • seamanship and shiphandling,
  • bulk carriers,
  • inspection and surveys,
  • safety,
  • command,
  • pilotage,
  • the work of the harbourmaster,
  • education and training and
  • communications.

Books are produced to the exacting standards set by the Institute's Papers and Technical Committee and all scripts have to be vetted by referees before approval is given for publication.

Many of the Institute's publications have become industry guides and there is a regular programme of review to keep the publications up to date.

All publications can be purchased on-line, by post, fax or e-mail or by visiting the Institute itself.

"The Institute's publications cover books, monographs, conference proceedings, and briefings."
