Membership Recruitment Recognition Scheme

In the replies to the President's questionnaire and in all previous surveys, members have said that one of their main reasons for joining the Institute is to be recognised as a professional and to contribute to the profession. There are many ways of contributing in addition to the essential one of the annual membership subscription: a very important one is recruiting more members. Proper funding makes it possible for the Institute to realise our aims; increasing membership will enable us to be the truly representative voice of the professional mariner worldwide, and effect change.

The Membership Recruitment Recognition scheme will provide recognition for those members who recruit colleagues or others connected with the maritime industry. In essence, the MRR scheme will recognise recruitment of members nominated as MNI, AMNI, Associate and CNI. These may include lapsed members who have been encouraged to rejoin by an individual current member or branch.

Members eligible to be recognised under the MRR scheme will be considered every year and recipients will be listed and publicised in SEAWAYS. Awards will be presented at the Institute AGM, the member’s Branch AGM or other suitable NI gathering as most practicable.

Members whose recruitment efforts are recognised under this scheme will receive a high-quality display trophy with the new Nautical Institute logo on a background colour of blue, silver or gold according to the award level in a matching velvet covered case. The citation on the base will display the name of the recipient and that it was awarded, ‘in recognition of recruitment efforts to share and promote high professional standards’. It will be ‘signed’ by the President of The Nautical Institute. This is definitely a very prestigious trophy that any member could proudly display at their home or office.
