The Institute of Marine Engineers, Science and Technology (IMarEST) - The Institute of Marine Engineers is a professional institution and learned society and is the largest in its field in the world. It was founded in 1889 to provide a forum for discussion on engineering matters and to enhance the status of the profession. (directions)
The Marine Society and Sea Cadets - The Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC), a charity formed in 2004 from a merger of The Marine Society and the Sea Cadet Association, exists to offer seafarers and prospective seafarers a range of services to enhance their well-being and lifestyle. The work of MSSC in support of professional seafarers has evolved over 250 years, reflecting the experiences of the UKs maritime fortunes.
The Marine Society has provided guidance, life-long learning opportunities and support for professional seafarers from all the sea services since before the time of Nelson.
The Sea Cadets is the nations most enduring maritime youth charity, with 400 units throughout the UK and 15,000 young people engaged in learning nautical and life skills. (directions)
The Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) - The Royal Institution of Naval Architects is an internationally renowned professional institution whose members are involved at all levels in the design, construction, repair and operation of ships, boats and marine structures. Members of the RINA are widely represented in industry, universities and colleges, and maritime organisations in over 80 countries. (directions)
The Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN) - The Royal Institute Of Navigation (RIN) is a learned society with charitable status; it was formed in 1947. Its objects are to unite in one body those who are concerned with or who are interested in navigation and to further its development. In this context the term navigation covers motion of all kinds as well as command and control; it embraces subjects traditionally associated with navigation such as astronomy, mathematics, cartography, electronics and information technology. The London Nautical School - The London Nautical School was founded in 1915, as a consequence of the official report into the loss of the Titanic. In 1990, it became one of the countrys first 11-18 comprehensive secondary schools for boys to be awarded grant maintained status. In September 1999, it became a Foundation School within the London Borough of Lambeth. The schools nautical ethos is still pivotal. Pupils attend residential nautical courses, which run throughout the year and they participate in other nautical visits and water based activities. The school continues to attract those with an interest in ships and the sea and many former pupils have embarked on careers in either the Merchant Navy or Royal Navy. The school is affiliated to HMS Richmond, a Type 23 Duke Class Anti Submarine Warfare Frigate.(directions)
The Nautical Institute - The world's leading international professional body for qualified mariners. The Nautical Institute aims to promote and co-ordinate nautical studies world-wide by promoting high standards of qualification, competence and knowledge among those on or concerned with the sea.
