SUMMARY
This international conference, held 13th - 14th November 2002 in London, brought together Mariners, Ship Owners/Managers, Manufacturers, Regulators, Trainers and others involved in the design and implementation of integrated bridge and navigation systems, to gain feedback from Mariners to enable the users’ perspective to be incorporated into the design process.

The objectives were to:

  • Create an opportunity where participants can learn about and view the latest technology and concepts affecting the future of IBS/INS systems
  • Create a structured, facilitator lead forum to freely discuss the users perspective of the new technology and concepts.
  • Identify best practices for the use and implementation of existing and new technology.
  • Identify training needs associated with the implementation of new equipment for future watchkeeping.
  • Through collaboration, document the basic principals of operation and the key issues of concern, for use in industry-wide technical and regulatory committees.
  • Explore options for developing a system of user feedback for future design and implementation.
