Join us in a winning partnership

Gain a competitive edge through group NI membership

Membership of The Nautical Institute offers significant benefits for individuals and organisations alike. By encouraging your staff to join the NI you'll not only be supporting their individual development - you'll also be giving your organisation a competitive edge.

Your partnership with one of the world's leading professional maritime bodies will be seen by your stakeholders as a very public statement of your organisation's commitment to improving competency, best practice and safety.

Minimum 30% discount...
In recognition of the economies of scale achieved through group arrangements the Institute is able to offer a discount of 30% on the cost of membership, as well as waiving the normal joining fee. So, as an example, if you were to arrange for 12 of your staff to become members of the Institute, the total saving would be £757.20 (based on the NI's most popular category of membership).

You can elect to pay either the whole of the discounted membership fee on behalf of your staff, seek to recoup a proportion (or all) of it through regular salary deduction, or arrange for them to pay the Institute directly.

To discuss how your organisation can benefit from establishing a winning partnership with The Nautical Institute please contact Chief Executive, Captain John Lloyd RD MBA FNI at member@nautinst.org

Support our MARS industry-wide safety initiative as a Nautical Affiliate

By becoming a Nautical Affiliate in partnership with The Nautical Institute your organisation will be making an important and highly visible commitment to improving safety within the maritime industry. That's because the £500 we receive every year from each of our Nautical Affiliates is used exclusively to fund our Mariners' Alerting and Reporting Scheme (MARS) - a key safety initiative that provides the entire maritime industry with a free, searchable online database of confidential reports of accidents and near misses.

The following organisations have already chosen to become members of our Nautical Affliliate scheme...

The benefits for your organisation...

  • public acknowledgement through the Institute's website and in selected issues of our members' magazine Seaways of your support for MARS - a key and high profile maritime industry safety initiative

  • your own personal printed copy of Seaways, keeping you informed of the latest developments and thinking within the maritime industry - plus copies of our other periodicals such as The Navigator magazine

  • 30% discount on our entire range of specialist maritime books and guides as well as discounts on delegate fees to key industry conferences and events

Captain Kuba Szymanski FNI, InterManager, speaks about the need for the NI's MARS safety reports...

Capt Kuba Szymanski FNI

"Through the Institute's MARS reports we can see what has happened to someone, what were the root causes and more importantly we can learn lessons through the experience of others"

Captain Zarir Iràni AFNI, Constellation Marine Services...

Capt Zarir Irani

"Recollecting the details of a published MARS report can mean that someone somewhere, at sea or ashore in the management office, takes avoiding action in a similar situation."
