Speaker – Kim Fisher - Royal Institute of Navigation
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) began a review of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) some six years ago to investigate whether any changes were desirable, given that the system was over 30 years old and technologies had changed.
This review has completed a scoping exercise, a high level review, a detail review and is now moving towards a modernization plan.
The speaker has been closely involved with this work in the IMO/ITU Joint Experts Group and will report on the progress made.
There will be the opportunity for the audience to express its views and to join the informal discussion in the Wardroom Bar before and afterwards.
