| International Marine Accident Reporting Scheme |
| The Marine Accident Reporting Scheme is a confidential reporting system run by The Nautical Institute. The aim of the scheme is to allow full reporting of Accidents (and Near Misses) without fear of litigation. It is hoped that with this free information exchange valuable lessons may be learnt by others and future similar accidents avoided. |
|
MARS reports are published in "Seaways" - the monthly journal of the Nautical Institute (free to Members). |

If you have experienced any incident which you think may be of interest to others you can print and enter the details on our standard form with your name and a contact address and send it in confidence to: |

MARS Editor
Captain Nivas’ sea service began in 1974 with Seven Seas Transportation of Bombay, after two very successful years at TS Rajendra. From 1977 to 1989 he served with UASC of Kuwait, rising from third officer to master, before becoming senior operations manager for a leading shipping agency in Bombay for two years. The 1990s through to 2002 saw him back in command in foreign flag vessels of various types (general cargo, container, timber, dry bulk and pure car / vehicle carriers). This varied experience has been invaluable in his training role and will be equally beneficial to MARS. He is also a certified ISO lead auditor and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics. |

Captain Shridhar Nivas MNI was appointed as the Editor of MARS in August 2006, a job he fulfils on a part time basis from his home in Mumbai. Captain Nivas is involved in training post-sea students in all deck competency and selected modular and value-added courses. We are pleased that his employer, the MASSA Maritime Academy, appreciate the synergy of his additional role and we look forward to the students sharing their experiences with MARS in the usual confidential manner.
